COS READS
COS Reads is the nonprofit organization behind the Save Rockrimmon Library campaign. Save Rockrimmon Library is focused on reopening library access in NW Colorado Springs. COS Reads advocates for equitable library access, vibrant community spaces, and systemic reforms across the Pikes Peak Library District.
We are thrilled to share progress on establishing an interim library for the Northwest Colorado Springs community. Despite the challenges, our commitment to preserving access to library resources and fostering community connection remains unwavering.
• Location Secured:
Our interim library will open at Christ the King Lutheran Church, a welcoming and inclusive space that aligns with library values. This location offers a temporary yet accessible solution for our community.
• PPLD Collaboration:
Discussions are ongoing with PPLD to potentially bring a bookmobile to this location on Fridays, enhancing the library services available in the interim.
• Volunteer-Driven Operations:
The hours of operation will depend on volunteer availability. We are calling on the community to contribute time and resources. Specific needs include children's and teens books, book organization, staffing, and storage solutions. Let us know if you can help: [email protected]
• Community Involvement:
A phone survey is in progress to gauge interest in volunteering and item donations, such as board books, popular titles for all ages, and storage bins. If you're on our list, you will initially receive a text message.
• Future Goals:
While this is a temporary setup, a dedicated committee is working diligently to secure a more permanent, unshared location for the community library. The ultimate vision remains to rejoin PPLD once conditions allow.
• Expanding Advocacy:
Attendance at local meetings is crucial to maintain visibility and influence. Upcoming meetings with the County Commissioners and City Council are key opportunities to voice support for this initiative.
• Call to Action:
Spread the word! Flyers, social media updates, and meeting attendance are essential to growing our presence and showcasing the community's dedication to this cause.
This initiative is more than a stopgap—it is a testament to the resilience and dedication of our community. Thank you for your continued support as we take these important steps toward a stronger future.

9 AM, Centennial Hall - 198 S Cascade Ave.
There were 51 applicants, including some highly qualified ones and at least one who has ties to Carrie Geitner. We want an applicant that would only close a library as a last resort, not as a priority while pursuing the purchase of Ute Pass Library, renewing Monument Library’s multi-year lease, and installing a new ILS system when the present one works fine.
10:00 AM, Trailblazer Elementary School - 2015 Wickes Road, Colorado Springs CO 80919
Council starts at 9 a.m. and is held at City Hall. Commissioners’ meeting starts at 9 a.m. at Centennial Hall in downtown Colorado Springs. Agendas are usually published the Friday before the meetings.
We need every person you know to attend library board, city council and commissioners meetings.
We need a sea of support to urge our city council, county commissioners, and the board of trustees to do the right thing. Children are welcome!
Library closures affects our entire city: bring anyone who loves libraries.
We are looking for volunteers for our interim library!
Please watch for opportunities in our newsletter.

Our fear is that the Pikes Peak Library Board of Trustees isn’t planning to stop at closing one library or even two.
We need everyone to urge our city and library officials to reverse this decision.
